Curiocity ’22 Update

Igniting Young Minds: A Journey to Spark Curiosity

Attention all science enthusiasts! It’s time to gear up for an exciting initiative that will make you go bonkers with science. Join us in this thrilling adventure to create a world full of curious sparks! “Curiocity” is an ambitious project that aims to create a world full of curious minds and ignite the spark of science in underprivileged girls. Curiosity and science go hand in hand, and Curiocity aims to nurture that bond. By providing opportunities and resources to students, we hope to inspire them to become the next generation of scientists and innovators.

The ‘Curiocity’ journey began at ‘Shishu Mandir’ in 2021, where we started showing simple science experiments to explain scientific concepts. The ‘Science for Fun’ sessions were a hit, with children eagerly watching optical illusions, chemical reactions, and creative experiments, making science a fun learning experience.

On National Science Day, we launched ‘Science Spark’ at Shishu Mandir, with an array of creative science experiments to make science a fun learning experience. Enacting as Madam Curie and APJ Abdul Kalam, we inspired the students on how the ‘Ordinary can do the extraordinary’. The event featured demonstrations in chemistry and physics, including the effects of liquid nitrogen on solids, liquids, and gases (an AHA moment when a bottle rocketed up the air); gyroscope rotations; and chemical decompositions accelerated by catalysts (creating Elephant Paste!). The entire school of 300 students watched in awe as these experiments were conducted in collaboration with Experient Labs.

Leading up to Science Day, we also conducted a fundraiser campaign to donate equipment for the school’s science lab and for future experiments. We partnered with Experient Labs, a center for learning science through fun, to configure engaging science experiments for schools, who also supported the first cohort of students and teachers from 2 schools to have a day long engagement. To generate enthusiasm, we held a Rubik’s cube contest on Science Day, showcasing the agility and problem-solving skills of the students.

The school principal and administration sincerely applauded our efforts, recognising the ingenuity and dedication to the greater good of society.
