Curiocity ’24: Activity Report
Expanding Horizons: Empowering Future Scientists
As we welcomed 2024, the impact of Curiocity continued to expand, reaching more students and igniting more minds. This year, Curiocity focused on further enhancing the scientific capabilities in the 10 government schools by donating additional lab equipment, ensuring that students had the tools they needed to explore and experiment. This year the science teachers were very enthusiastic to give us the list of equipment very quickly as they had seen the children flourish in the previous years.
As a next step, we also conducted contests in schools for students to showcase their experiments in science as a run up to the National Science Day on Feb 28th, 2024. This year we had 450 students present 130 projects In the 10 schools in the run up to the contest.
On the National Science Day, we had our grand celebration to award the winners of the contest. The Science Teachers from all the 10 schools were there and the top experiments from the school were on display. The judges went around and it was heartening to see Smart Attendance System, Wifi enabled Robot, Chandrayaan 3, Solar System, Surya-yaan, Waste Segregation, Eco Environment, Rain water Harvesting, Solar Energy Traffic Control, Energy Saving Concepts, Human brain, Cell Study, to mention a few.
59 Science models were presented and more than 120 students participated from 10 schools. Student Laksmi and her team from KPS High School, Varthur, Bangalore won the Best Model award for their incredible presentation and innovative Smart Attendance System. Each school won 1st and 2nd place for their model presentation and all the students received their participating certificates with their goodies.
Special thanks to Science Teacher Rajanikanth for coordinating in selection of the listed schools, getting the required list for the science lab at each school and also during the procurement. We extend our thanks to the Science teacher Gajanan Nayak and staff of Vishweshwaraya school for supporting us in providing the venue and coordinating the event in their school premises. Congratulations to all the students and good wishes to them for their creative thinking and presentation.
